Who We Are

The idea

for founding the charity was conceived following a working holiday to Peru by a team of volunteers from the UK in 1999. This holiday introduced them to the work of Union Biblica del Peru (UB) - the Scripture Union of Peru. UB has five main outreach ministries: working with street children, the deaf, children and young people in schools, running holiday camps, and bible teaching. In order to support its programme of activities, UB , itself a charity in Peru, raises funds through income generating projects. However, the money raised is used entirely for running costs of the programmes. Capital costs come from charitable donations.

As first time volunteers

it became apparent that practical, financial and prayer support would greatly enhance the scope and security of UB's work with the street children and an informal partnership was formed to help shape future support and other projects in Peru. Out of the partnership the charity Street Children of Peru (SCOP) was born, and formal recognition of charitable status was granted on 8 September 2000.

Our Mission Statement

The advancement of the Christian religion, the advancement of education and the relief of poverty, sickness and distress in particular among the street children of Peru.
